The City of Kawartha Lakes is a friendly community in the heart of
Central Ontario's picturesque agricultural and vacation country. Whether
you ride a road bike, a mountain bike, or something in between, even a
tandem or a recumbent, we have cycling routes that will take you along
the Trent Severn Waterway or an abandoned railway line . . .through
fields, forests, and wetlands . . .and into our many historic towns and
villages. Join us in our cycling adventures and take advantage of all
the benefits the Kawartha Cycling Club can offer:

June 28, 2009
The club is on the verge of hitting the membership goal the executive had in mind for 2009, that being 80 (we are currently sitting at 79).
At the last executive meeting (Monday June 22), because of the very positive response to the Spring KCC Mass Ride, it was decided that another KCC Mass Ride will be organized for September, with the date and location tba.
The club executive is currently in contact with the CoKL to determine the best way the club can provide input on road repairs and upgrading to produce a better (and safer) cycling experience in the City for both local and tourist cyclists.
It was a terrific weekend in the NCC (Gatineau-Ottawa) region, with cycling, eating out, shopping, and tourism for 11 cycling KCC members and 5 non-cycling (at leasy on this occasion) spouses. The Saturday ride went from Gatineau over to Ottawa and then down the Rideau river/canal. The Sunday ride went up through Gatineau Park to the Champlain Look Out, in the company of many, many other cyclists. Sunday afternoon was spent, by the hard core, watching the Preston Street (Little Italy) Road Races. Attached you'll find a picture (by Deb Craven) of Derek St. John winning the pro race. The racing was viewed by the KCC folks from the curbside patio of an Irish Pub. There may be some group photos later, just to establish that we actually went cycling. (Once you have climbed to the Champlain Look Out from the Ottawa River, you certainly know you've been cycling, uphill. However the reward is that on the return downhill sections gravity-aided speeds can get up around 70 km/hr without too much effort.)
There is no doubt that the strong link between exercise and good
health has contributed to the rapid growth of cycling today. It's hard
to beat when it comes to promoting our own well-being, as well as that
of the planet we depend upon and that depends upon us - behaving
responsibly.
The KCC prides itself on the social element that seems so integral to cycling, and to cyclists at all levels and of all ages. You'll find there are already many in the club who share your particular interest in, if not your obsession with bicycling.
The KCC is all about good healthy inexpensive fun and your membership includes the OCA personal and public liability insurance coverage.
