Welcome to our June newsletter.

Ride Safety

Participation and Safety guidelines for club rides are now available on our website. Riders are encouraged to review applicable safety points prior to a ride. Short, quick safety reminders before any activity have been proven to significantly reduce accidents.

Membership Update

We currently have 66 paid up members with several more expected in the next few weeks. If you know of interested folks please pass on this newsletter

KCC Jerseys and shorts update

Our new Jerseys and shorts are in!! You can pick up your order from Mike at Spokes for Folks.

We have limited surplus inventory and you can check out availability and pricing on our website together with ordering information. We will also be posting additional clothing options (such as long sleeve jerseys and jackets in our design)together with pricing and minimum order sizes.

Saturday Morning Road Ride

Experienced road bikers are invited to join the group for a good pace 60-80 km ride starting at 9:00 AM from Tim Horton’s – (corner of Kent and Victoria). Leader is George Pineau. For more information contact George at pineau23@sympatico.ca .

Thursday Night Training for Cadets and Juniors

Women’s Saturday Morning Road Ride

First ride starts July 6 at 8:00 AM from the Cambray community centre and travels to the Little Britain bakery!! Please contact Deb Craven at 705-374-4070 or by e-mail at deb@spokesforfolks.com for more info.

Easy Rider Thursday Night Ride

Already underway, this ride starts from the old City Hall on Kent Street Thursday evenings. It’s a short fun ride of 15 to 25 km touring the City of Kawartha Lakes. Please contact Brian at 705-328-2215 or devancycles@yahoo.com for more details.

Existing Program and Scheduled Rides Update (please note membership is required to participate)

Fenelon Falls Freewheelers

Most rides start at 9:30 AM during July and August however check the recently updated schedule on the website for the times and events.

This year’s social will be held at Art and Lola’s home on Balsam Lake July 16. Riders and spouses/significant others are invited. Cost is $7.50 per person for a BBQ lunch plus. There will be a short (32 km) club member ride followed by lunch and refreshments. Check out the schedule for more and remember to let Art (arthurhornibrook@yahoo.com ) know you’re coming.

Monday Easy Rider

Rides are underway starting at 10 AM from 8 Mill Street in Lindsay. For more information contact Brian Devan at 705-328-2215 or devancycles@yahoo.com.

Over The Hill Wheelers Open Invitation

An open invitation from the KCC-Over the Hill Wheelers ride group to any KCC member: Come out and try our regular Wednesday and Sunday rides (weather permitting). Anyone interested in joining us can contact me via my KCC email address BrianMcFadzen@kawarthacyclingclub.com or by telephone (705) 793-2393 for information Any KCC member is also welcome to be put on the KCC-OTHW email ride notification and update list, which also includes news on elite Canadian cyclists competing at home and internationally. 

Tuesday Time Trials

Time trials are well underway and start at 6:15pm sign-up with first rider off at 6:30. Participants meet in front of the United Church in Cambray. Check out the posted results on our web page. News from Our Mountain Bikers!

At the "Ganaraska Gear Grinder" held on June 15th, the KCC Jersey was on the Podium with Dave Girolametto completing the 50 km "Long Course" in 3:08 to finish in 3rd place.

The Wednesday Night races in the Ganaraska Forest and the Thursday Night races in the Durham Forest are a mainstay for KCC Mountain Bike Riders.

Provincially, with 4 of 7 races complete, the MTB O-Cup Series is well under way. Next race is in London on July 6th.

On the weekend of July 12th & 13th, officials from the International Mountain Biking Association will be on hand at the Ganaraska Forest Centre to lead a trail maintenance clinic. At that time, the 100 Km long "Paul's Dirty Enduro" trail will be designated as an EPIC trail.
